The Prout Research Institute of Venezuela has been given the use of a large, beautiful house in Caracas, and we would like you to consider staying with us during your next visit to Venezuela. The Quinta Prout is in the district of El Marques, Caracas, a 20-minute walk from the Metro Station La California, and there are cheap collective taxis from there to the house. If you call or write ahead of time, we can provide three delicious vegetarian meals and lodging for a contribution of US$30 or €22 per day. (We also offer group discounts.) See the recommendations of Professor Peter Bohmer and tour guide Lisa Sullivan.
The Quinta Prout is a safe, peaceful environment, with an incredible 360º view of the city and the national park, El Avila, which is only a 20-minute walk away. The house has seven bathrooms with showers, beautiful gardens, free wireless, and daily yoga and meditation classes. We sometimes have one or two rooms free, and we have plenty of spare bunk beds in the men’s and women’s dorms. About ten people live here, like sisters and brothers in a family. Half of us are Venezuelans and half from other part of the world.
We are not a hotel, nor are we interested in becoming one. We will not accept people who show up at our door without prior notice. However we are happy to host researchers, teachers, students and others who sincerely want to see and understand the social transformation that Venezuela is undergoing and contribute to that process. We enjoy sharing and learning, too.
We organize inspiring “Reality tours” to cooperatives and other social and community projects in and around Caracas. In January 2012 we hosted 37 university students and faculty from Evergreen State College for a week, and many expressed it was a very positive experience, as did a student group from Brazil and other individuals.
Our Rules and Norms include no alcohol, non-prescription drugs, meat, fish or eggs are allowed in the house. No smoking is allowed anywhere in the house or the yard. Please respect your colleagues and keep romances outside of the office and Quinta Prout. We also ask that each visitor contribute 30 minutes a day helping with chores.
We hope you visit us when you next come to Venezuela.
